The seven-episode documentary Through SCO is a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It will be broadcast on CETV Channel 1 at 21:30 starting from October 27.

Season 1 of Through SCO consists of seven episodes. The series is aimed at documenting the culture and history of the SCO countries and disseminating the spirit of the SCO, which mainly reflects the contemporary and traditional cultural and historical features of Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization, the creation of which was announced on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai (China) by the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was preceded by the Shanghai Five mechanism. Currently, the SCO comprises eight member states, four observer states, and six dialogue partners.

On September 13, 2013, at the SCO Summit in Bishkek, President Xi Jinping declared to the world solemnly that China will set up China National Institute for SCO International Exchange and Judicial Cooperation (CNISCO) at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, and is willing to use this platform to train judicial talents for other member states. After eight years of construction and development, CNISCO has now become an important platform for judicature, law enforcement, and culture exchanges for SCO. CNISCO has become an important base for Shanghai to play a bridgehead role in promoting the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. It has also become one of the landmark achievements of Shanghai's education internationalization and comprehensive reform.

In order to further implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speeches at several SCO summits in recent years and deepen the judicature and culture exchanges among countries along the Belt and Road, starting from 2018, the joint film crew of CNISCO and Shanghai Documentary Academy of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law has conducted overseas filming and field research in Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and other countries. The crew has disseminated the Shanghai Spirit of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, mutual consultations, respect for cultural diversity, and a desire for common development through the lens, which provides a new perspective on culture exchanges between China and countries along the Belt and Road.

A documentary can be considered a photo album of a country. The filming of the documentary for SCO countries helps preserve their countries' photo albums. The joint film crew of CNISCO and Shanghai Documentary Academy of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law received great support and assistance from various countries in their interviews and filming, which demonstrates the friendship between China and SCO countries.

On June 15, 2021, at the International Symposium of “20 Years of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation: Retrospect and Prospect”, the debut of the documentary was highly appreciated by SCO Secretary-General Mr. Norov. He expressed the hope that the film could be promoted and broadcast in SCO countries to further expand SCO's influence in the world.
